China's largest onshore wind power project goes into operation; all-carbon fiber blades become the core configuration.

The Inner Mongolia Energy Urad Middle Banner 1.5 MW Wind and Storage Base Project, the largest single onshore wind power project in China, recently commenced commercial operation. Of the 150 10 MW wind turbines in the project, 110 utilize all-carbon fiber blades, highlighting the large-scale application value of carbon fiber materials in the new energy field.

According to the project's person in charge (person in charge), the all-carbon fiber blades are one of the project's core highlights. Compared to traditional blades, these blades have a root diameter of 3.6 meters, increasing root load-bearing capacity by over 26%; during operation, the distance between the blade tip and the tower increases by over 12%, significantly improving operational safety. Simultaneously, leveraging the lightweight and high-strength properties of carbon fiber, the overall load of the turbine is optimized. Combined with innovative side-mounted transformer substation technology and a dual-bearing design, the turbine weight is reduced by over 5%, significantly improving the stability of the transmission chain. Data shows that after the project reaches full capacity, it is expected to generate 5.44 billion kWh of electricity annually, reducing standard coal consumption by approximately 1.64 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4.98 million tons.

Industry data shows that by the end of 2024, China's annual carbon fiber production capacity had reached 135,500 tons, with wind turbine blades accounting for approximately 38% of the demand. This large-scale application of all-carbon fiber blades in this major wind power project will further boost demand for carbon fiber, drive technological iteration and cost optimization of carbon fiber materials for wind power, and contribute to the green and low-carbon development of the new energy industry.
